Damon and Naomi Return

Writing about Damon and Naomi is kind of like writing about the Beatles. What do you say about a duo who has made some of the most important indie on the planet over the last twenty or so years? I mean this is a band that sort of invented it's own sub-genre while they were in Galaxie 500, influenced a generation of songwriters, and still to this day puts out albums. They're important, and obviously two decades or so after they started they've kind of proved their resiliance and ability to continually write great songs.

Coming from the "sad-core," area of town this dynamic duo (and the rest of the band) create laid back lullabies for anorak wearers. Their latest album, False Beats and True Hearts, lilts it's away across nine songs of introspection and beauty. Gently the guitars weep, sighed vocals whisper by, and the songs tip toe through the motions of beauty. False Beats and True Hearts, as one might expect, is a great record that continues the long streak of great records from Damon & Naomi and just further defines their legacy.

While I generally hate folky singer songwriter-ish pop, there's just something that resonates deep within here. Whether it's the fact that I still love Galaxie 500 or that to this day I still love the way Naomi coo's her way across a song, Damon and Naomi will always hold a soft spot in my heart. False Beats and True Hearts is a gorgeous, lazy pop record that will melt your heart with the sound of tenderness...and how can you not like that?
