Bonjay Is Brought Up

The Canadian's do it again. Their latest all conquering artist comes to us from Toronto and goes by the name of Bonjay. Consisting of two members, Bonjay is the unlikely pairing of the geek and the diva who together create absolutely stunning pop. Their mini album, Broughtupsy, is an experimental electronic battle weapon that shows what happens when influences are shaped into something far better than their individual parts. Ian's off kilter and slightly downtempo beats, and Alanna's seductively proper vocals (that at times will remind you of Kate Bush) integrate well together and create this clinically cool sound that sounds like trip hop sped up or dubstep given class.

If Broughtupsy's six songs are hints of what we’re in for when this group finally records an album, than we are in for a serious treat. Broughtupsy's electronic soul is brilliant stuff and even at its most minimal is quite mesmerizing. Whether it's the fact that the beats are crisp or the vocals are seductive, Bonjay have clearly tapped into something here that will leave you wanting more. From the near banger of, "Stumble," to the lushly hypnotic but slightly clanky, "Want A Gang," Broughtupsy is a fantastic little record. My only advice to Bonjay is to stop releasing these little records and put out a double disc behemoth of their tripdubtechnosoulhop already.
