Easter Island's Better Things

Easter Island's Better Things EP is a hazy trip through the miasma that sounds like a post Ambien experience you'll want to stay on for a long, long time. Sounding at times like The Doves, Elbow and even old Catherine Wheel, Easter Island sound like they've been living on an island for far too long and quite honestly like they don't ever want to be found. This is lazy shimmery pop with just enough of a hangover to crawl under the covers. If there's such a thing as post-shoegazing this is pretty much the definition of it right here and it rules. Starting out like a sunrise and working its way toward sunset over the course of five songs, the band don't ever seem to be in a hurry to end a song or really even fully develop it into something more. This is an impressionistic take on music and like Monet and Manet, it's gorgeous.

Lazy pop so many often times is just plain dull but Better Things EP is fantastic simply because not only is it lost in a haze of its own making but because it very quietly and subtlety casts its hooks. This is the sort of record that quietly works itself into your subconscious without regret and you're quite thankful for it. Post-shoegazing should always sound this good and thanks to Easter Island it can...just keep playing Better Things EP for an eternity.
