Daft Punk Takes On Tron

One of the most anticipated movies of 2010 just so happens to feature one of the most anticipated soundtracks of 2010 as well. With French house legends, Daft Punk, taking the reigns of the Tron Legacy project the soundtrack sounds as far in the future as the movie itself and these two masked droids have created a series of soundscapes that will make you feel as though you are part of the grid. Having grown up with an admiration of Disney's groundbreaking original 1982 film, Tron, Daft Punk took on the scoring of the next chapter of the story with extraordinary thought and precision. The duo assembled a symphony of one hundred world class musicians in London and recorded the orchestra at AIR Lyndhurst Studios, Britain's premier scoring facility.

Tron Legacy shows a completely different side to Daft Punk; a side that should come as no surprise and a refreshing change from the massive club bangers that they're known for. Mature, very well thought out, and potentially the best record they've ever made this is a record that is so overflowing with drama and so wide screen that you can almost piece together the movie without having even seen it. This is an epic, modern, soundtrack with enough classical flourishes that you will honestly forget that you are listening to Daft Punk. The care and precision that's been put together into each piece that makes up this soundtrack shows just how much this work means to the group and you can't help but admire them for how their creativity seems to have flourished throughout this record.

Tron Legacy is the sort of record that will make you look at the band differently. It's a game changer for them and shows them to be far more than a one trick dance music pony. The fact that each of the pieces here paints a vivid clear set of images that relates to the film without a single word of dialogue, to me anyway, indicates that this is the sort of soundtrack on par with the likes of Star Wars, Harry Potter, and just about any John Williams or Hans Zimmer's work. Even when Daft Punk do venture into their native world and crank up the synths (on "Derezzed" and "End of the Line,") the songs fit perfectly within the world of Tron. This is the sound of the computer age coming to life...and it isn't too happy.

The soundtrack like the movie is beyond exciting. As someone who's patiently waited for Tron to get the respect it's always deserved, I'm not only thrilled to death with the movie but this soundtrack as well. This is a fantastic piece of work created by someone no one would have thought capable of doing such a thing. Tron Legacy is awesome....it's a geek paradise you'll want to get lost in over and over again. If being trapped on the grid is as exhilarating as this soundtrack, find me a recognizer and sign me up. Tron lives once again...and this is a very good thing.
