Their Destiny is Glorie

Exray's, the band, sound as if they're stuck in one; of the films that is. This spooky duo takes lo-fi pop and blasts it with radiation in order to achieve their broken down undead vibe. Their self titled album is a bit rough around the edges and really seems as though whatever they recorded it on was on its last leg. As a result their whole record seems fractured, disjointed and kind of weird and I'm not really sure if that's a good thing.

The lo-fi nature of the record coupled with fragile nature of the songs just makes the whole thing hard to enjoy. There are some bright moments scattered throughout the thing, but for the most part, the downtempo pace and barely there production just wears thin after a couple of songs. It wants to be something more than it's really capable of being with the production here. Given the chance, one wonders if Exray's could be amazing with a little help and a budget...but until that happens...they'll just continue to sound like a disembodied spirit trapped between two lead shields.
