LCD Soundsystem Is Happening

To say James Murphy likes a good groove would be such a massive understatement it's almost impossible to comprehend. As one of the founders of the DFA and inventor of the LCD Soundsystem, Murphy has pretty much brought the idea of getting your dance on to skinny white kids everywhere. Over the course of two (and now three) LCD Soundsystem albums and one of the most influential dance music labels on the planet, James Murphy has truly proven himself to love dance music. His third LCD Soundsystem album, This is Happening, further pads his credentials while at the same time places itself as one of the best albums of 2010.

This is Happening starts out with a trademark, LCD Soundsystem eight minute plus dance floor freak-out that sounds as if Daft Punk were playing in your house. From the opening salvo of "Dance Yourself Clean,” all the way through the Iggy Pop-ish downtempo of "Somebody Calling Me," This is Happening rarely takes its eyes off the dance floor. Murphy is so amazingly in tune with how to create infectious grooves that one gets the sense that they come to him in dreams. Fluid, flawless, and irresistible the songs that make up This is Happening are a non-stop rhythmic treat that will leave your tired, worn out and craving more. This is Happening is ridiculously good and extremely addictive; one listen to this record is not enough and repeated listens will only deepen the grooves that this album possesses. It's an awesome record.

After three albums in, LCD Soundsystem doesn't seem to want to slow down. They have created three incredibly consistent albums and Murphy has become such a crossover phenom that it seems as though anything he creates or is involved in turns to gold. This is Happening is easily one of the best dance records of the year. While the rest of the world jumped on the dubstep bandwagon, LCD Soundsystem unleashed a behemoth of a record that so successfully melds pop, indie, and dance music together that they're almost indistinguishable. Energetic, original, fun, and addictive, This is Happening is a record that everyone needs to own whether they like dance music or not.
