Gangrene's Gutter Water

Despite one of the ugliest covers in recent history, Decon's latest record by The Alchemist & Oh No (AKA Gangrene) continues to see the label blazing a trail of cutting edge, forward thinking hip hop that's light years ahead of everyone else. Over the course of three years and a myriad of emails, the two members of Gangrene have built a project that celebrates their shared passion for dusty breaks and lurid wordplay as well as their different approaches to each. The two artists share production duties through this record and trade verses over each other's compositions. Their chemistry is undeniable and s a result Gangrene is a force to be reckoned with.

Filled with fresh rhymes, gritty beats, and songs that are darkly entertaining, Gangrene bring their collaboration to the forefront on Gutter Water. With guest stars lined up like a cavalcade of talent, Gutter Water offers a non-stop parade of interesting angles and verses from fellow stars, Raekwon, Fashawn & Evidence to name but a few. The result of all this collaborating is a record that's raw, edgy, s occasionally political and occasionally on a chilled out chronic vibe. Its intriguing stuff whose rawness powers it through the best chilled beats I've heard in a while.

From the sampledelic "Get Into Some Gangster S*&^," to the dark beats of "Chain Swinging," Gutter Water is far from the gutter. Gangrene might sound like they came from the gutter, but their songs and productions are so strong that, like the Jefferson's, they've moved on up. This is quality stuff from a quality team up on a quality label. What's not to like? If you like your hip hop progressive and raw like botchulism...you'll love Gangrene's Gutter Water
