Eastern Conference Champions

Many moons ago, Easter Conference Champions were being hailed as one of the next big things and then before the hail could even fall, they had disappeared. This was a bit of a disappointment but apparently was because of a label conflict and as those things go, it didn't seem to end with platinum records and millions of dollars. However, the band did win its independence and upon being released from the shackles of major labeldom, the band immediately went back to work. Then they got picked up for the Twilight: Eclipse movie and things obviously ramped back up again. Which leads us here...their Akustiks EP.

Originally, planned as an acoustic EP of some of their older material the band ended up recording new material specifically for this record. Taking away their funky indie dance chaos, the band sat down with a bunch of guitars a few drums and just went for it. While these recordings will not be in movies about vampires, Akustiks is the sort of record that's perfect for road trips across Interstate 10 with the top down. Folk rock with an emphasis on the rock end of things, the six songs that make up Akustiks are anything but moany, boring, cliche folk music. Oh no, this is a record that's dusty and rustic but with a sense of fun and a serious desire to kick up a bit of that dust.

Surprisingly good, Akustiks is the result of a band that had never recorded anything acoustically and hitting a home run. While I prefer their funkier side, Eastern Conference Champions now have something to fall back upon if they need to...let's just hope it never comes to that. The perfect stop gap measure Akustics should tide everyone over until ECC's next full length record, called Speak-ahh, is released in the Spring of 2011.
