Brackles Mixes Songs For Endless Cities
In this day and age where "mixtapes," aren't actually tapes at all and they aren't even really mixed, it's nice to know that there are still quality DJ mix albums out there. While a few years ago the market seemed to be flooded with these compilations of DJ's on the ones and two's the market today seems to have slowed down to a crawl. While this might be because of the creation of Mixcloud, Soundcloud and the like, it's nice to have something "old fashioned," like this come across my desk. Brackles' Songs For Endless Cities is a heck of a throwback and is like listening to the mounds of records I used to get at Winter Music Conference every year all mixed into one giant mega-mix.
Taking house music and bringing it in to an urban environment, Songs For Endless Cities, sounds like a cross between tech house, garage, and proper up-front house music. Starting sublimely and working itself into a fidgety frenzy, Brackles carefully builds the environment in which he lives and surrounds himself with all kinds of bleepy beats that any discerning listener will find difficult to resist. The album is populated with tons of underground tunes that travel between genres like a commuter train between cities. Fusing jazzy elements, sexy garage beats, glitchy wobbles, and an overwhelming sense of movement Songs For Endless Citiesproves that the DJ mix album is still alive and well. Brackles so easily moves the tunes around genres and beats that his mixing is just about 100% seamless; his flow and construction are absolutely brilliant.
From the jazzy vocal work or, "I Need Love," to Brackles' own glitchy garage soul of, "Blo,", Songs For Endless Citiesbuilds a full head of house steam and has a hard time keeping it's beat filled frenzy to under 80 minutes. This is so much the case, that you really get the sense that Brackles quite honestly could have turned in a ten disc, eight hour box set mixed live, with or without Ableton at the ready. This is pure groove goodness and Brackles proves time and time again throughout Songs For Endless Cities, that house is a feeling. I'm glad this came across my desk; it was a refreshing throwback to the days of massive clubs, HUGE DJ's and the never-ending quest for bigger and better tunes. If someone told you that mix CD is dead; they were wrong...it's gone underground; just where it belongs.
