Sebastian's Total Experience

Sebastian is a French electro artist that's kind of confused. Rooted firmly in the Ed Banger camp of Justice-like bangers Sebastian throws it all for a loop by incorporating screamo, string theory, metal, and distortion to his chopped up beats. His album, Total, seems somewhat appropriately titled as it encapsulates so much music over the course of 22 songs that it’s totally difficult to keep up with.

Total has just about everything under the sun within it. Guitars, broken beats, chaos, noise, accessibility, it's all here and it's all over the place. Sebastian creates songs with brushstrokes of sounds and glimpses of ideas that seem to fly through his electronically influenced brain. This is an ADD kind of album that has so much music to try and cram in over the course of 80 minutes it has very little time to dwell on things too long. As a result, Total, has sketches and ideas for songs that last mere seconds while occasionally, some develop into full songs.

Total is a chaotic recording that's frenetic and scattershot. It's a bit disjointed, but if you're willing to sort through all the bits and bobs there are some real bangers buried in between. Sebastian is a creative force to be reckoned with and Total is a total musical experience that your brain and ears won't soon forget.
