Karsh Kale's Cinema

Karsh Kale is a widely regarded pioneer of global fusion and electronica and his latest album Cinema most definitely proves that. With sounds coming from all over the world, Karsh Kale fuses together cultures, traditions and instrumentation that create an alluring musical collage that's absolutely riveting. Cinema is a massive widescreen project that encompasses the circumference of the globe and features a wealth of collaborations that give the record a communal feel. This is an epic record in every sense of the word and how Karsh Kale managed to string it all together and make it work is truly beyond me.

Cinema, as its name might imply, is imbued with a film-like quality that is carried out in each and every song. With aural images being created through a variety of compositions and textures, the songs almost take on a soundtrack like feel. It's really nice stuff that's so diverse you almost need a call sheet to keep track of all the influences. From Asian chants to techno beats, Karsh Kale weaves them all together into a beguiling mix that comes at you from all sides. Cinema is so much more than a chill out album or even an ethno-techno record; it's a cultural gold mine eager to share its treasures with everyone.

Cinema in a word is fantastic.
