Head To The Party Keller

The Party Keller compilation series is a project linked to a Munich based club night that centers around funk, boogie, and disco tunes that you nor anyone you know have ever heard. Volume 3 of the series continues to gather essential, rare, and absolutely brilliant funky tunes that can rock a dance floor upside down. With sixteen tracks mixed into a funky frenzy Volume 3 is a slow burner that gradually increases the energy level to nuclear and will have you sweating in your polyester as if you were in a desert. This is a record that is designed to be pure and funky and it succeeds on every level. From the slow motion soul funk groover of Bo Kirkland & Ruth Davis, "We Got The Recipe," to the ridiculously insane version of "Mama Said Knock You Out," by the BA Baracus Band, Volume 3 never ceases to amaze or slow down.

Populated with enough funky jazz to set the mood and the building through some slow motion funky jams and building into a funky disco frenzy, the guys at Party Keller clearly know how to build a set and get you moving whether it's on the dance floor or your living room. While the first half of the album relies on a lot of instrumental jam sessions the record eventually wanders into vocal territory about half way through and your mind has something to cling to as your feet shuffle to the beat. It's impressive stuff that builds and builds into a beast of epic proportions. By the time Gizelle Smith rolls in with "June," you'll already be out of breath but wanting more. Volume 3 is an awesome record.

You have to hand it to these crazy Germans; they've done their research, dug around, and unearthed so many gems here that they are officially the finest miners of funk on the planet. I'm not sure where they've found some of these records and I'm not sure I want to know, but I'm very, very glad they found them and threw them together on this record. They've done such a good job that just about every one of these tunes is spot on. In fact, very rarely does Volume 3 falter and even when it does, the slip in quality is so slight that you never really notice. This is a sixteen track compilation of the jazz funk soul you need in your life. With bass lines to die for, beats that need to be sampled, and grooves that go on for eternity there's almost nothing you can dislike about Volume 3. Having listened to this, all I know is that if I find myself in Munich I'm heading straight to the Party Keller because they know how to get down.
