Bass Drum of Death!

Bass Drum of Death, despite the name, are not a dubstep group who have taken possession of an army of sub woofers. No, this Oxford, Mississippi duo are an untamed, raw garage rock band that would make Iggy Pop blush, Jack White give up, and anyone with the love of rough guitars and bashed drums unashamedly giddy. Their album, GB City, is a sonic wave of destruction that sounds like The Sonics on a murderous rampage through the 60’s.

GB City is a shoddy, hanging by a thread kind of record that relies on its overwhelming power to ram its message home. What that message is I have no idea, but my guess it involves loud music, cheep beer, and long, long nights. With songs about drugs, theft, depression, girls, and basically fighting to stay alive the EP only confirms all of this. Bass Drum of Death is a duo probably lucky to be living and rock and roll is the only thing keeping them alive. GB City is the sort of thing that courses through their veins; the songs given them life and allow them to rock.

Whether it's the downtrodden, "Spare Room," or the spazzy, "Heart Attack Kid," Bass Drum of Death is so ready to rock their heads might explode. GB City is a proto-garage punk explosion that's a literal riot to listen to. Raw, unpolished, and gritty as sandpaper, it doesn't come any better than Bass Drum of Death.
