Tony Castles Provides No Service

No Service by Tony Castles is as woozy sounding as the cover of this record implies. It's a hysterical psychedelic mess that lies somewhere between falsetto vocals, Modest Mouse, and a hospital visit. It's a confused collection of songs that somehow, someway, manage to grip hold of you and leave you in a confused state. I'm not sure of what the thought process of this nutsy trio involves but it looks like it could potentially wind them and possibly you in an ICU ward. With R&B rhythms, hazy guitars, and a general sense of being out of it, Tony Castles floats their way across the five songs that make up this EP.

No Service is nice stuff that's like the aural interpretation of our dreams. It's queasy, strange, and doesn't really make sense but for some reason, Tony Castles continues to strum their guitars and make songs to lull us into their strange world. Whether it's the melatonin induced coma of "Girls In Black Dresses," or the chunky and nervous bass lines of, "Dream Job," this record is a head scratcher in all the best ways. No Service might not make sense to most but it's intriguing and weird enough to keep them and you from turning it off.
