Neil Hamburger Fry's On A Hot February Night
Just when you thought it was safe to listen to comedy again, sleazy comedian provacteur Neil Hamburger rears his ugly, lost in time, head again. This disheveled greasy, thick rimmed glass wearing, whiskey swilling, rockabilly comedian, performer, drunk troubadour occasionally finds himself in front of a recording device. When he does he has this strange tendency to let loose a salvo of crazy and jittery bits that will make you cringe, turn your head away, and even laugh. His latest record, Hot February Night was recorded live on tour and is a rude, spitting frenzy of really bad ramblings that are in fact, so bad they're hilarious.
Truth be told, I can't stand the guy and the fact that he manages to hawk up, approximately, 350 lugies during his routine makes him almost intolerable. But, when he manages to keep it all together in front of the frat boys that heckle him and fires back at them it's pretty funny. For thirty minutes Neil Hamburger, curses, drinks, and tells really bad jokes to a group of dumb fraternity boys who clearly don't get the fact that the joke is on them. As much as I have a hard time tolerating this guy, his incessant chewing out of the audience is a treat to behold. It's hilarious to hear the hecklers constantly be put in their place with constant salvos of profanity and in all actuality it's much, much funier than his actual jokes. That is of course the charm of Hot February Night; that buried amongst the tasteless jokes that fall flat is some hilarious banter between him and the audience.
Neil Hamburger, sounds like he's going to die at any minute and with that in mind it's no surprise that he lets it all hang out for his entire set. Hot February Nightis tasteless, offensive, and more often times than not, cringe worthy but despite all that and despite the fact that it's hard to like this schtick you can't help but laugh. Some of his material is a laugh riot and his repartee with the audience is gold. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that's offended easily but if you're not, this wince worthy record is so horrible it's great.
