Great Northern Remind Me Where The Light Is

Somewhere between the dark of night, pop, folk, and a bit of of shoegazing lies Great Northern. Their album Remind Me Where The Light Isis aptly titled because of the hazy pop that populates this disc.

Sounding something like a cross between the Pale Saints, Slowdive and Mazzy Star, Great Northern can be found sitting in a dark room taking antidepressants and fretting over Remind Me Where The Light Is. It's a lethargically spooky album that follows its listeners wherever they go stalking them with melodies at every turn and that's not a bad thing. You see, it's tunefulness and almost symphonic spooky musicality carry the record through the night, into the day, and then back to the night in an effort to continuously haunt your soul.

With a widescreen sort of approach that's as big as California, Remind Me Where The Light Is' dreamy snooziness is as hypnotic as it is epic. The nearly gothic and noisy charm of each song makes a subtle impact as the melodies linger for ages and the album eventually sucks you in. It's beautiful stuff that might just give you nightmares.

From the incredibly fragile "Story," to the almost swirly pop of, "Mountain," Remind Me Where The Light Is is an album of intoxicatingly beautiful gloomy pop. It's like a ray of moonlight creeping through your window and into your soul. It's a charmer of an album and Great Northern have done one heck of a job at making something that’s so epic and yet so easy to listen to.
