Glimr Has the Faith of Our Fathers

There's math rock and then there's math rock. And math rock is exactly what Glimr are all about. What's that mean? Well how about indie rock performed by people that are essentially scientists and find the use of equations and degrees from Cornell and Harvard essential to their ability to rock out? If you can imagine that and the inclusion of a particle accelerator into the mix, you can probably imagine the kind of music that Glimr crank out on their third album, Faith of Our Fathers.

Like a hypothesis with a lot of theories, Faith of Our Fathers is loaded with musical questions that are difficult to answer. This is not easy listening in any way, shape, or form in fact I'm not even sure it's fair to describe what Glimr play as indie rock. Using universal laws of all kinds and the ability to launch experimental songs through their particle accelerator, Glimr don't really focus so much on writing songs that are easy to remember as opposed to songs that are impossible to figure out. The songs on Faith of Our Fathers are technical, intricate and just about the strangest things around.

With nary a chorus around or something that your brain can latch on to Faith of Our Fathersis note taking rock and roll. Complex and all over the place, Glimr don't sit still for very long and as a result weave a puzzling array or textures and sounds into things approach songs. Whether or not you actually enjoy Faith of Our Fatherswill depend on your tolerance for experimental music and things that sound just plain weird. Glimr write music that scientists can understand using a calculator and algorithms designed to harness the power of the universe.

Faith of Our Fathers is fascinating stuff that defies musical logic and that's it's greatest strength as well as it's greatest weakness. I enjoyed the tangled musicality of it all and most musicians and music theorists wilm more than likely love it as well. For those not accustomed to musical meanderings that make little sense, you'll probably find Faith of Our Fathers confusing and unappealing and as a result shouldn't even try listening to this. Faith of Our Fathers is definitely for the more musical adventurous out there and that's not a hypothesis but a fact.
