Nick Jaina In the Opera House

Nick Jaina isn't your usual singer songwriter/folky kind of guy. Jaina, you see, does more than just sit on a stage and strum, this guy will literally play anywhere he can. What does that mean? Well, if that means in clubs than so be it, if it means outside of the clubs busking for bob, he'll do that to; it doesn't matter. Thankfully, he and his merry band of fellow musicians have come in from the cold and harnessed that never-ending desire to play in an effort to make his album, A Bird In The Opera House stand out amongst the crowd.

I'm happy to say he and his band might well have accomplished that feat simply because, once again, he does so much more than sit and strum. Perhaps sounding something like Jason Molina with the occasional spring in his step, Nick Jaina is a dreamy singer who weaves sounds and imagery together to create an introspective atmosphere that's too rich to pass up. A Bird In The Opera House is unrestricted by the normal singer/songwriter parameters and because of that sense of freedom and ability to wander, the album is by far one of the more interesting singer/songwriter folk records I've heard this year.

From the lullaby like, "Sleep, Child," to the quiet mellowness of, "Asheville," this is one singer songwriter it's ok to like. A Bird In The Opera House is an angelic almost dreamy set of songs that wins you over with it's instrumentation and ability to be different. I don't really like most singer songwriter stuff but, much like the songs of Jason Molina, I really enjoy the sweeping emotional works that Nick has come up with here.
