Dntel's Early Works, Works For Me

Dntel's Early Works For Me If It Works for You II is the very definition of epic. At three CD's and forty tracks this set is a monumental tribute to the genius that is Jimmy Tamborello. Consisting of his first two albums completely overhauled and a third disc of unreleased material, Early Works For Me If It Works for You II is pretty much a treasure trove of electronic gems waiting to be rediscovered.

Early Works For Me If It Works for You IIshows Dntel evolving into an artist who weaves glitchy, synthetic sounds together into a heady cocktail of mellowIDM brilliance. Throughout the minimalistic Early Works For Me If It Works for You II Dntel proves himself repeatedly to be an early adopter and master of the whole lap-pop movement. Loaded with breakbeats, lush synths, and an almost ethereal sense of self, this album is far different from his later work or his work with the Postal Service. That's not to say that it's a bad thing, as much of the material on Early Works For Me If It Works for You II is great stuff that only begins to hint at what Dntel is capable of.

In fact, Dntel's Early Works For Me If It Works for You IIis a dreamy trip through intelligent dance music that never gets boring. From the skittish breakbeats of, "Loneliness is Having No One to Miss," to the lush nearly Orbital like, "Casuals," Dntel uses his keyboards like a magic wand weaving a spellbinding mish mash of beats and textures that's hypnotizing.

For early works and early attempts at creating tunes, much of Early Works For Me If It Works for You IIis incredible. There's barely anything you can fault Dntel on. He's just one of those artists that knows how to create killer material and he does so over and over.

In listening to Early Works For Me If It Works for You II it becomes glaringly obvious that Dntel was (and still is) a true talent who would only get better as time would move on. If you've ever considered yourself a fan of the IDM genre or just like lush, minimal dance music then this epic set will impress.
