Acrassicauda Know Only The Dead See the End of the War

Probably the craziest thing about Acrassicauda that you need to know is that they come from the streets of Baghdad and over their short career have already had a documentary made about them and their struggles, survived a dictator, and some little war in their home country. If that wasn't enough try gaining respect and popularity for a metal band in a country like Iraq where dying a horrible death isn't just a fantasy but the grim reality every day. The story of this band is a story of perseverance and overcoming ridiculous odds just to make a record. The fact that they're even alive for doing what their doing is a miracle, the fact that they've gotten to record and make a record is the mother of all miracles.

But here they are, out of the depths of the underground and a war zone armed with their debut EP, Only The Dead See the End of the War. Probably no band on the planet is more qualified to write songs of death, mayhem and chaos, then Acrassicauda. The awesome thing about that is not only are they qualified, but they're very, very good at what they do. Only The Dead See the End of the War is a massively impressive piece of thrash that's like the best combination of classic Testament, Pantera, and Sepultura ever. In listening to Only The Dead See the End of the War you're taken back to thrash's purest form where nothing but raw power, chugging riffs, and brutal mosh parts were all over the place. Only The Dead See the End of the Waris the sound of a tank rumbling through the Green Zone while being attacked from every direction. Acrassicauda is brutal and when they land in those mosh parts all hell breaks loose; riffs fly, drums bash and vocals growl. In other words, Only The Dead See the End of the War, simply put, is awesome.

For as much as I often forget about the music I grew up with Acrassicauda reminded me of how powerful it can be when done right. Only The Dead See the End of the Waris an awesome record that has an awe inspiring story behind it. The very definition of underground, Acrassicauda are one success story that metal fans can be proud of anywhere and Only The Dead See the End of the War is one EP that all metal fans need.
