Versaemerge Emerge
Versaemerge, are yet another emo band to explode from the state of Florida; this time from the ever wonderful city of Port St. Lucie. This three piece of young kids take the whole emo template and throw it for a loop with a bit of drama thrown into the equation. Lead by the dynamic vocalist that is Sierra Kusterbeck, the band does more than just soar with huge choruses, it does loops and barrel rolls. Their five song self-titled EP is what happens when the girls show the boys how it's done.
Starting off with a bit of piano, "Theatrics," the stage is set for the dynamic approach that Versaemerge use with emo. From there the record explodes into a barrage of tense chugging riffs that almost sound like some sort of old power metal track from Helloween. It's a nice blending of metal, emo and pop and the results are a song that's technically strong and more powerful than a v12 engine. The band hasn't forgotten what makes emo, emo though and they let you know that with the soaring melodicism of, "Past Praying For." While it can be a bit samey at times, Sierra's voice is ridiculously powerful and she takes this band to heights not possible by her peers. While short at only five real songs, Versaemergeis enjoyable because of the vocal fireworks that are all over this record and the bands ability to play along with this. This is emo done right.
