Themselves, the Bay Area duo of Doseone and Jel (both members of the group Subtle), have returned from a six year hiatus with a flurry of activities and releases planned for 2009. Amongst those activities is the release of the theFREEhoudini Mixtape.
Featuring a huge number of guests including Slug, Aesop Rock, Busdriver, WHY?, Buck 65, Passage, DJ Baku, Alias, Pedestrian, Sole, Serengeti, Styles, and The Lionesque theFREEhoudini Mixtape reads like a who's who of the indie hop scene. According to Doseone, each of the tracks selected for theFREEhoudini Mixtape are of every rapper Themselves, have shared the stage with and then some. It's an impressive array of talent that plays out in fine form. The track selection is excellent the beats are swift and fresh.
While, theFREEhoudini Mixtape, isn't mixed in DJ fashion, Themselves do one heck of a job of track selection and that's half the fun of the thing. If you can find this online or something download the thing it's definitely worth the price of FREE and then wait til August when their latest album comes out.
