thecocknbullkid Is No Bull
Born in Hackney, East London, to Ghanian parents, thecocknbullkid aka Anita Blay is not the most conventional of pop stars. Fortunately, this does little to slow how rapidly the 23-year-old is establishing herself as one of 2009's brightest pop hopes. Her debut Stateside EP, Querelleis a slice of dance pop with a dark edge to it that makes it stand head and shoulders above the rest of the pap that plagues the radio. Put it this way, this four track EP is like the best thing Janet Jackson never got around to recording. Take Jackson's Rhythm Nation add a sense of wit and a sense of perversion to it and you have Querelle in a nutshell.
Querelle is a brilliant slice of pop that's dance floor friendly and melodic enough so that you won't forget it. Each of the four tracks here are hits in their own right, but when combined into Querelle they become an absolute pop juggernaut of epic proportions. From the opening note of, "Kiss Kiss Kill," to the final note of the melodramatic mastery that is, "I'm Not Sorry," thecocknbullkid proves herself to be a veritable pop powerhouse with the songs to match. Edgy, smart, and unafraid to do it her own way, thecocknbullkid illustrates how proper pop music can be credible. I've heard the future of pop music and her name is thecocknbullkid.
