Sean Walsh and the National Reserve Might Make You Homesick
Steeped in the traditions of country and classic rock Sean Walsh and the National Reserve write songs as if the Eagles were their dads and the Byrds were their neighbors. Their album, Homesickis the sound of the dust-bowl with distortion and a longing for a simpler life. While that all sounds promising, unfortunately, Sean Walsh doesn't really follow through with all this potential. Sure this band has it's heart undoubtedly in the right place but so much of Homesick is just too boring to keep your ears interested.
See, I'm not a fan of the slow, heartbroken ballad and I'm definitely not a fan of countrified rock so when Sean Walsh breaks out the ballady twang it pains me to no end. As a result so much of Homesickbrings very little to the table to keep me entertained or fascinated. I can't stand groups like the Eagles and I definitely can't stand the fact that the Byrds decided that Americana was a better way to go than jangly pop. So, it's really no surprise I'm not a big fan of this record. Perhaps if they stepped up the pace just a bit as they do on, "You Know," they might win me over, but instead they yank out a piano and just kind of sigh all over the place. Ugh. Sorry about that guys.
While I'm not a fan of this sort of stuff, if you like your rock with a tinge of the American West and a bit of folk and country than Sean Wash and the National Reserve is for you. However if you like your rock and roll with more of a pulse rate, than saddle up your horse and head on over to the ranch of RAWK and leave these guys in the dust.
