Pariah Piranha Are People...People
Their bio says it best, Pariah Piranha is a product of the 90's and will remain forever nostalgic. That pretty much sums up this band and it's true. This is a band that's so in love with all things grunge that it's hard to believe they're actually not from the 90's. That being said, their third album, People Peopleis like the best Hole, Babes In Toyland, and Liz Phair albums never recorded.
Heavy, melodic, and angsty, People Peopleis a blast from the past that will sound familiar to anyone who lived through the grunge phenomenon the first time and anyone who's ever fell in love with a distortion peddle. With this being their third album, Pariah Piranha have pretty much solidified their sound and as such have perfected it. With fuzzy basslines, bashed drums and vocals that would make Mudhoney blush Pariah Piranha are a pair of Doc Martens waiting to crush you to death. I haven't heard this much angst and gut churning riffage since 1992 and while it's easy to say it's already been done and done to death it's kind of nice that someone isn't desperately trying to be electro, folky or worldly.
From the punk angst of, "Green Rooms," to the slow burn of "Insurance Insurance," People Peoplenever lightens up. This is a relentless record that pounds its way through the 80's revival going on and leaves it gasping for air. This is alternative music pure and simple and it will beat the heck out of you. In a world obsessed by "indie," this is the alternative and if you don't respect it, Pariah Piranha will run you over without hesitation. The 90's are back and it starts with Pariah Piranha's bombshell known as People People. Break out the Doc's folks.
