Music Go Music's Expressions

The origins of Music Go Music is as strange as they are. The members of the band met at a party in the home of a man who was, at the time, called, "the Condor." After that initial connection at this mysterious man's home, the band eventually pieced itself over the course of several weeks and then took a year or so before they actually had nine songs to their name. What they didn't know, was while the band thought that their nine songs would just be played for their nearest and dearest, the tunes had other ideas. Of course, as fate would have it, their plans changed and the music escaped from those closest to them and went global. This welcome surprised resulted in the creation of their album, Expressions.

Expressions is a very interesting recording because it sounds something like ABBA tripped out on magic mushrooms lost in a forest somewhere north of the arctic circle. As strange as ABBA out of their minds might be, this is actually a very good thing. Imagine the disco dancing classicism that made that band such a force and then add stupendously cool musicianship and trippy instrumentation to the mix and you have a record that's sweaty and covered in a polyester jumpsuit. It's awesome stuff...believe me with melodies coming from all angles.

Music Go Music write songs that are a bit theatrical, trippy, but above all else pop. What that means is that no matter how big things get and no matter how theatrical the songs are, they're always built around something that's stickier than super glue. It's a good thing because with out that simple element in their songs, much of Expressions would sound like a bad 70's musical (or an ABBA outtake record). Thankfully, they've pieced it all together in the right order and come up with something that's retro-informed and on the bleeding edge of cool. From the mini-epic drama of, "Love, Violent Love," to the loungy swinging 60's sound of, "Thousand Crazy Nights," Expressions is an expression of all things glitzy, glamourous, theatrical and nostalgic dressed in a glittery guise of post disco. Music Go Music, snuck this one by me, but I'm glad I stumbled on Expressions, is a rewarding listen that will have you wanting to watch Xanadu over and over. Expressions is all about updated classicisim with class and strangeness and that's why it's awesome.
