Minus 8's Slow Motionis exactly as it's title says...a record in slow motion. One of the penultimate nu-jazz albums of the year, this record is as chilled out as the palm trees and colors on the cover. This lush, beautiful record is as cool and sexy as a Miami sunset and is clearly in no hurry to do anything. Filled with sensuous vocals, lush string arrangements, chilled out beats, and jazzy horns Slow Motion is a weekend rolled up into less than 60 minutes.
This is a simply gorgeous record and as I sit here on a Friday afternoon in a fluorescent lit room it's as if the weekend magically appeared. Minus 8 has truly outdone themselves with this recording as this is just about perfect. It's grooves and vibes are relaxed and vibrant and never lose sight of the fact that the records title has set the agenda. This is brilliant chill out and it makes no bones about it. Slow Motion is yet another brilliant release in the lexicon of Compost Records. They're just about the perfect label and most of their releases are just as good. That being said, Minus 8's Slow Motion is pretty essential!
