Lady Sovereign Returns
The tiny trouble maker from London has returned! Lady Sovereign has just released her sophomore effort, Jigsaw and it would be safe to say that this record does not suffer from any sort slump at all. In actuality, Jigsawis a pure sugar rush of grime and electro influenced hip pop that kills. With Lady Sov's irresistible Cockney accent ruling over beat inflected tracks like the cast of East Enders and Mary Poppins rolled into one, the record like Sov herself is an adorable, charming gritty little brat that demands to be heard.
From the contact high of, "Lets Be Mates," to the sub-bass mayhem of the self righteous, "I Got the Goods," Lady Sovereign has a record here that's just as good as anything M.I.A. has released if not better. Seriously. A purely club friendly record that concerns itself more with dancing, hanging out at a student union, and pennies, then world politics, Jigsaw isn't worried about too much else, other than what's in front of it and that's half of it's charm; it's all about being in the moment.
Lady Sovereign has outdone herself here by writing a ten song blast of pop perfection thats packed to the gills with potential hit after hit. To use quote a famous song, Jigsaw is a spoonful of sugar that makes the medicine go down in the most delightful way. Easily one of my Top 25 Albums of 2009, Lady Sovereign's Jigsaw is an essential purchase!
