Eddi Reader Knows Love Is The Way

Glaswegian Eddi Reader has had a long and illustrious career in music. Beginning back in the late 70's she began by busking on the streets of Glasgow. From there she somehow found herself part of legendary post punkers Gang of Four and then wound up working with the Eurythmics and Alison Moyet. It wasn't until her stint with Fairground Attraction that she truly broke through and became successful. Now on her own for almost 20 years, she's endured trends and fashion and has still managed to make music.

Her latest album, Love Is The Wayis a lilting folk record that came about as a result of a several songs that were originally slated to be bonus tracks as part of a Best Of package. Finding those tracks too good to leave at the back end of a greatest hits record, Reader took to writing a new album. What she found was a whole new batch of songs that are the very definition of intimate folk music.

Far from just a girl and her guitar, Reader uses a whole host of instrumentation and emotions to generate a record that's rich and far more than just another folk record. From the strings and vocal accompaniment on, "New York City," or the piano jaunt of, "Over It Now," Eddi Reader is clearly capable of making an intimate recording sound like so much more. Dark Days / Light Yearsas a result is a beautiful and warm record that fans of artists like Joni Mitchell will instantly fall in love with. This is an enjoyable album filled with lush and affectionate songs that are truly timeless. Whether it's April in Paris or a rainy day in New York, Dark Days / Light Years is the perfect soundtrack.
