Cryptacize the Mythomania
Cryptacize are one of the quirkier blips on the indie rock scene. This three piece write odd sounding, off center tunes that sound like the usual amalgamation of indie pop, folk, and rock and roll gone wrong. In other words, they don't really sound like any other band out there because they take their influences and blend them into something that's completely original while being easy on the ears.
Their latest album, Mythomaniais a strange little record that sounds happy and sad as well as optimistic and down on itself. It's a record of contrasts that at times sounds nearly vaudevillian and at others dramatic and far reaching. When you get right down to it, Cryptacize are full of paradoxes such as these and it's what makes them such a cool band.
As vocalist Nedelle Torrisi sighs her way across each of the eleven songs on Mythomania you can't help but fall in love with her lilting, tender, and mysterious voice. It's that voice that is the driving force behind making much of Mythomania as original and eccentric as it is and it's fantastic. "I'll Take The Long Way," is a perfect example of this as her whispered nuances carry the song along in a sweeping sense of mysticism; it's a beautiful song that will quietly haunt your soul.
Mythomaniais far from being just another indie rock record and that's a very good thing (obviously). While Cryptacize might look the part of being just another bog standard indie rock band, the atmosphere and unusual world they reside in is anything but standard. They're ability to create detached pop that's beautiful and emotionally stirring is a testament to their growing ability as a band and Mythomania is proof of just how far they have come since their debut.
