Amanda Blank Loves You
Amanda Blank I love you. It's just that simple, and what's not to love? This foul mouthed white hot Philadelphian is one of the few artists today that can rap as well as she can sing and write even better pop. She's multi-talented and so charismatic she could sell her mother a used car and if you put her in front of a microphone watch out, because sparks will fly. As if to prove her point, her debut album, I Love You, is a dextrous album of rhymes, beats, and pop music that's as irresistible as a suitcase full of money.
With a list of influences that reads like an encyclopedia of music, Amanda Blank is clearly unafraid to throw them all into a pot and mix them up. The result of this open mindedness gumbo is stunning. It's rare to hear someone switch gears so effortlessly but do that and manipulate it all around beats that will have your feet lock in contortions is just unheard of. The girl knows her way around a tune and whether or not she's laying it down with her best friends Spank Rock, Santigold, and Diplo or just dropping curse words at a rapid rate with Ghostface Killah, Amanda Blank is a diva in all the best ways.
I Love You is an awesome record that benefits greatly from Amanda's range as an artist. This is an album that one moment sounds as if you should hide it from your mother and then is almost crying for attention the next. It's a rollercoaster ride that has 11 barrel rolls and is so much fun you'll never want it to stop. From the amazing electro reimagining of Romeo Void's classic, "Might Like You Better," to the oddly named tender love song, "A Love Song," and the nearly Fuzzbox pop of, "Big Heavy," I Love You is not only a showcase for Amanda Blank's multifarious ability with her voice but her ability as a songwriter as well. There's nothing not to love about I Love You. This record is the best amalgamation of electro, pop, and hip hop you'll hear and after one listen, you'll fall in love with Amanda Blank as well.
