Two Fingers Bubbles Up From The Underground
Amon Tobin is back! The first great collaboration of 2009 has been released and it's from the production duo of Two Fingers which includes the legendary pioneer himself along with Joe Chapman. In addition to themselves, Two Fingers have brought along some of the best of international vocal talent the world has to offer for the ride. The result, Two Fingers is a beat filled frenzy that sounds as if it's crawled up from the underground to have it's voice heard.
Two Fingersfeatures UK hip hop superstar Sway, Missy Elliot protege Ms. Jade, and dancehall legend Cecile who create an international urban soundscape that flows on top of Two Fingers' abstract beats and sub-bass waves. It's impressive complex indie-brit-hop that mixes ideas from Amon's drum and bass past with modern hip hop to create and all out assault on the senses that's challenging but brutally brilliant. Beats bounce off of woofers like bullets shattering everything in it's path while rhymes flow like a broken water main rushing every where. This is a record that was designed to be strong, relentless, and resolute and it does not disappoint.
Whether it's a dark angular track or an underground club banger, Two Fingershas all its bases covered and it rarely disappoints. In fact, the record is so good that even the instrumental tracks that help pace the record are impressive. From the massive thumping rhythms of "Better Get That," to the glitchy electronics and super fast flow of, "High Life," Two Fingers is a mind warping trip into hip hop's future. Two Fingers have taken what they're best at (drum and bass production) and flipped it, reversed it and then applied it to something new just to see what would happen and they wound up with something that's very, very good. Two Fingersraises the bar as for what hip hop can sound like and the fact that it came from someone like Amon Tobin really should come as no surprise. Welcome back Mr. T.
