Transfer Meet Their Futureselves

Like something out of a dream, Transfer slide out of the hazy mists of dreamy pop to haunt you with stirring songs that will stalk your soul searching for freedom. Sounding something like Flaming Lips in love with Spiritualized and on a bender with Verve, the band is the sound of the longest Sunday morning you'll ever experience. Their album, Futureselves is an obtuse, ethereal record that seems to waft in like a breeze and move through you like a cold spirit from the great beyond. They're spooky good and while all this might sound a bit disturbing and it is, it is in the most beautiful way possible.

Futureselves is the soundtrack of the great beyond and it's a beautiful thing. With spacey soaring vocals, phantasmagorical guitars, and songs that are as shadowy as they are inviting Futureselves is truly a mesmerizing lithium inducing moment. Lazily and lethargically going about it's business this is a record that isn't exactly racing to set the world on fire. That's not a knock on the album, it's just obvious that the band revels in the thought of writing enchanting, unearthly tunes. All you have to do is listen to, "Losing Composure," a few times and the picture will become crystal clear. Funnily enough, even when they're not trying to be airy and sublime they still manage to be; see the strangely hypnotic soul ballad, "Get Some Rest," as an example of that.

Whether it's in a name or in a song, Transfer love to create atmospheric pop that has it's head lost in the clouds. Futureselves as a result, turns out to be gorgeous billowy pop that's stunning even when it's not trying to be. The band have really come up with a great record here that's intriguing and unworldly and a few steps ahead. That being said, it seems only appropriate that the band name themselves Transfer because they've seen the future and it's them.
