The Summer Set Know Love Like This

The Summer Set began with the Gomez brothers, bassist Stephen and guitarist John, who spent a great deal of their time growing up playing music together. Feeling that what they were doing was much more then a hobby, they decided to put together a band. This was at the age of 14. By 2007, they had recruited Jess Bowen, Vocalist Brian Dales and guitarist Josh Montgomery. From that point forward, The Summer Set was determined to be more than an after school project to pass time but a positive force in music. It seems only appropriate then that they chose The Summer Set as their name and that they are so glowing with positivity the might just blind you.

Their album, Love Like Thisis a jolt of pure energy directed straight to your ears. This record, quite simply, is the sound of the summer no matter what time of the year it is. Filled to the brim with sunshiny riffs, bright chiming synths, and vocals that are sugar coated like Fruit Loops, there's not a down or dull moment on Love Like This. It's always scary when a bunch of kids are able to write songs that are this good and this positive. Chalk it up to innocence or something else, the groups youth is their their biggest asset as this is the sort of record that could make even the most miserable geezer smile.

Filled with pogo-tastic songs that are like three minute pep talks, Love Like Thisis the sound of teen-age America at it's best. While the world and the music industry for that matter is polluted with loads of negativity, not one ounce of it has tainted The Summer Set or their approach. This is a group and an album that's so high-energy you can't help but be as enthusiastic as they are. They're so up it's almost scary. And while the band takes a pseudo-pop/emo template and dips it in gooey goodness, The Summer Set are just so darn perky it's hard to fault them for this.

Call Love Like This a coming of age tale loaded with a glimmer of hope and you've pretty much summed up The Summer Set. From the title track to the glimmering buzz of, "Punch Drunk Love," Love Like This is a great album that shows the promise of youth and just how good a bunch of kids can be given half the chance. Postively positive pop that's too sweet and sugary to not like, Love Like This is a fun listen that will put a ray of sunshine into your life no matter the season.
