Recloose Has Perfect Timing
Recloose is a producer who has been making funky jams since running into legendary house producer Carl Craig back in 1997. Having studied the art of the jazz saxophone and later mastering the art of mixing and producing, Recloose began making more eclectic dance oriented music. Twelve years later he's still at it and Recloose simply put...has got the funk. His latest album, Perfect Timing is the best blast of 80's funk from the 21st century that you've never heard. This is a producer so in love with the electronic boogie get down of old records by people like Cameo, Rick James, and err The Jets that he can't help but be overly influenced by them.
To say Perfect Timing gets down would be a serious understatement. In fact, this record is the very definition of getting down, look it up. After listening to this record it's so obvious that Recloose is so in love with funky music that it not only occupies his brain but it just comes pouring out of him. Perfect Timing is an emotional release and absolutely brilliant in it's mix of funk anthems and slow jams.
This is a solid record that hits the ground running and never really slows down; it will wear you down and wear you out. It's a huge party record pure and simple but has just enough of a gritty vibe about it to make it sound like something you shouldn't be listening to even though you are. Recloose does a great job of essentially, out Chromeo-ing, Chromeo and makes so many fantastic synth runs, bouncy booty quakin beats, that the songs he writes will stick in your head for an eternity.
This is a guy that clearly has the knack for creating songs that generate serious dance floor energy while maintaing just enough sensitivity to occasionally write a downtempo gem. From the ridiculously addictive, "Emotional Funk," the jazzy swing of, "Catch A Leaf," and the massive pop hooks of "Robop," Perfect Timing is just about perfect and if there's a funkier record released in 2009, I would truly be amazed. Pretty much essential stuff.
