Owl City Has Ocean Eyes

It's been a long time since the Postal Service released their over played but brilliant debut album. Whether or not we'll ever see another Postal Service record is open for debate. If the groups sophomore effort never materializes there are, however, plenty of bands that would love to take their place. Owl City is one of those bands and in my humble opinion just so happen to be the leading contender. For no other band in the heap of Postal Service wannabees sound so close to original as Owl City and their album, Ocean Eyes.

Sounding as if scientists had secretly grown a clone of Postal Service and DCFC vocalist, Ben Gibbard in a vat deep in the label's basement, Owl City's similarity to their more famous peers is simply striking. Sweet, sacchariney, and slicker than 40 barrels of oil, Ocean Eyesis an album of synth pop bliss scientifically designed to give you goose bumps. It's such an over the top record that just about every song on it is a potential hit and if not a hit, most definitely a song you and all your friends can have a dance to.

A record of bedroom pop and twenty-something angst and whimsy, Ocean Eyes is a fun listen. It's computerized perfection is hard to forget and with choruses and instrumentation that soar in the clouds it's just about impossible. It might sound a bit too much like Postal Service for it's own good but seeing as though their not around, having Ocean Eyesat your disposal is like having the next best thing. Smooth, nerdy, and irresistible, Owl City have created a record of pure pop genius that will win your ears and your heart with songs that will never leave your brain. An impressive debut.
