Maps Turning The Mind

Space...the final frontier. A special place for musicians. Some bands aspire to reach the heavens and some bands are already from there. Northampton's Maps are one such band.

With a sound that harks back to the greatest shoegazing bands ever and then processed through and endless series of synths, drum machines, and loops Maps has a sound that truly is unearthly, heavenly, and absolutely gargantuan. Their lates album, Turning the Mind is such a rip in the space time continuum that the galaxy can barely contain this record. The songs here soar through space as graceful and effortless as the most aerodynamic spaceship could ever hope too and when the aliens finally let you go, you're head will be left spinning in amazement and awe and just how awesome this second record by Maps really is.

Turning the Mindis filled with sweeping, breathtaking, and electrifying moments that will leave you aghast in joy and ecstasy. No matter how depressing the subject, Maps manages to make it seem like its the most absolutely brilliant thing ever. This is the sort of record that will reaffirm your belief in humanity because it just sounds so positive and heavenly and it's over abundance in glistening synths and guitars shine as bright as the Northern Star. This is shimmery indie at it's best.

From the Chapterhouse-like sounds of, "I Dream of Crystal," to the nearly Sarah Records like pop of, "Everything Is Shattering," there is not one bad moment on this disc. Every song is absolutely blissful dance infused pop and sounds like the voices of angels occupying your head. Turning the Mind will linger with you forever. It will move you.

Turning the Mind is a climactic, thrilling, and spine-tingling ride. This is the sort of album you never want to end and it's almost gut wrenching when it finally comes to a close. Maps have tapped into what the afterlife sounds like. Turning the Mind is its soundtrack and it's the most amazing thing ever.
