Lullaby Arkestra Make Threats Demand Worship
This years Monotonix Award goes to Lullabye Arkestra. What exactly, is the Monotonix Award? It's the award given to the most destructive band on the planet. By that I mean, this is the band you should fear and stay away from, the band that if witnessed live might just kill you and your friends with out an ounce of remorse or regret. Lullabye Arkestra is that band and their album for Vice Records entitled, Threats/Worshiphas been certified by the NSA as dangerous and a potential threat to national security.
Threats/Worshipis the result of two individuals tuning down a guitar, breaking drum heads and enjoying a combination of raw violence and primal scream therapy. This is metal that's been beaten, broken and is mightily angry at the world. Lullabye Arkestra didn't just go about recording this record, they went on a path of wonton destruction in the making of it and my guess is they left a trail of chaos, death, and bodies in it's wake. Threats/Worship is not music for the feint of heart. Truth be told, this may not be music for the strong of heart either as Threats/Worshipis so heavy and so grindy that it's the sound of a steel plant, die factory, and assembly line all rolled up into one. In other words, this record is awesome.
After listening to Lullabye and recovering from my wounds, I think I figured out the key to a successful relationship...playng music as aggressively and noisy as this is like therapy for any two people caught up in any sort of relationship. What a better way to sort out all your differences by literally thrashing and destroying everything in your path, except each other. Of course after all that destruction, you need to take breather every once and a while and Lullaybye do so with a twisted closing ballad called, "Sad Sad Story." It's just the thing to limp home to or fall into each others arms to as the song has this bizarre country feel that will make you want to hug someone not matter how bruised they might be.
Lullabye Arkestra have recorded what has to be one of the most intense, physical, and emotional records of the year. Threats/Worship is epic and draining and if it doesn't leave you in a trail of tears and blood then you're clearly not alive. This is the sound of metal stripped bare and then pieced back together with duct tape. Threats/Worship is awesome stuff that's the best kind of counseling you're ever going to find and it only costs about $15. Bargain!
