Loud Is The New Loud
The New Loud are one book you can almost judge by their cover. This is one power trio who lay it all out on the table from the get go, because it's all in their name. Loud, brash, fast, and sounding something like Bis on speed, I Am Spoonbender mixed with a bit of emo, and the destructive nature of Thunderbirds Are Now!, The New Loud are the aural equivalent of being pulled in thirty different directions at once. While that might seem like a bad thing, being drawn and quartered with such good songs in all actuality is really quite refreshing. In fact, The New Loud's six song EP, Can't Stop Not Knowingis a melodic tour de force that while at times seems as though it might self destruct, always manages to hold itself together with a great chorus or hook. It's all jerry rigged and held together by duct tape, but it works and works well. The New Loud simply know how to mash together everything they've been influenced by and make a song that's listenable out of it. It's quite remarkable, to be honest, because of just how close to the edge they come at times.
Can't Stop Not Knowing is highly entertaining and had these guys been around in 2001-2002, there would have been flocks of white-belted scene kids who worshipped the ground these guys walked upon. Unfortunately, it's 2010 but The New Loud should still be able to find success. With songs as crazy as the synthpunk of, "Don't Dance," the insane version of Radiohead's, "2+2=5," and the syrupy sweet addiction that is, "Heaven," it's easy to see why. Can't Stop Not Knowingis an awesome EP that hints of the danger and excitement that lies ahead of The New Loud until that time comes you Can't Stop Not Knowing how good this little record is.
