Linda Draper's Bridge and Tunnel
Linda Draper's Bridge and Tunnel is a folk album that's been stripped down to it's bare components. With sparse instrumentation and a barely there feel, Bridge and Tunnelis left to emotionally powerful songs to get it's point across and it does, in a minimal quiet manner that will appeal to everyone and anyone whose ever loved the classic folk sounds of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell.
Listening to Bridge and Tunnel is like listening to aspects of Blue and Diamonds & Rust rolled into one. Draper's songs are unobtrusive and quiet, they sound as if she's set up shop on your couch with her acoustic guitar and is just having a strum or two after dinner. It's pleasant enough stuff but it just lacks energy to keep it continually entertaining and glued to my seat.
While Draper has a stirring voice that may appeal to people who love the classic folk sound of the 60's, but unfortunately, I find this sort of thing terminally boring. Bridge and Tunnel's minimal sounds and instrumentation may appeal to some, but I found it difficult to follow after about three or four songs and found myself wanting to put on another disc. Sorry about that.
