Cornerstone Mixtape Brings It

Essentially a prolonged advertisement for about 30 different things which I couldn't remember if you paid me, The Cornerstone NBA 2K10 Mixtape storms New York City with some of the freshest (or phreshest) rhymes in the city. Mixed by DJ Eclipse from the Halftime show on WNYU and hosted by Bibbito Garcia the disc is a reflection of what Eclipse brings to the game; pure underground hip hop. Loaded with new tracks from Skyzoo, Kidz in the Hall, and Pac Div...the album is loaded with essential tunes. Throw in Cornerstone's Music Meeting and you have a mixtape that's pretty much as essential as food, clothing, and shelter.

The mixtape side of the album is all killer and no filler and with only the drops in between to annoy you, the sixteen tracks that make up the mixtape flow like the mighty Mississippi; strong and fast. It's awesome stuff and Eclipse is a top, top, top notch DJ that cuts and slices like a set of Ginsu Steak Knives on overdrive. The guy knows the tracks he plays better than the artists that created them and he shows this off repeatedly. He's a phenomenal DJ and it's no wonder he's a New York legend. About the only bad thing you can say about this thing is the fact that there are one to many drops in this thing pushing NBA2K10. Yeah, I know that's who sponsored it...but like two would have been enough....heck it's all over the cover too.

The second half of the disc, known as the Cornerstone Music Meeting features ten top tracks that bump and grind so much that they're illegal in twenty three states. Designed for the dance floor and with sounds coming from everywhere, east, west, north, and south, the Music Meeting is the best night in you can have. With tracks from Trina, Mary J. Blige, Major Lazer, KRS-One and more the Music Meeting is like the best music desert money can't buy. The ten tracks here alone, are worth doing what needs to be done to find this disc but throw in the Mixtape and it's a whole different story.

If the Scion Sampler is the most essential dance music sampler then it's easy to say that The Cornerstone Mixtape is the most essential hip hop sampler. Every minute of this record is awesome and whether it's DJ Eclipse mixing it or Three 6 Mafia bringing it, The Cornerstone NBA 2K10 Mixtape needs to be a part of your life. Fantastic stuff.
