Champion Chill's Em All
Champion's Chill Em Allpretty much lays it's cards on the table with it's title. In fact, this is one proverbial book you can definitely judge by it's cover before you even hear a note. Sounding like a beachy sunset and having the vibes to lull you into a trance, Chill Em All is a mellow dance excursion that's the soundtrack to your next vacation. With the weather being what it is, Champion's efforts sound like the best wishful thinking on the planet right now and when you throw in the fact that it's pretty darn good to boot, well you kind of have a winner.
Perhaps taking a bit of Moby, a bit of Fluke, a bit of Grid, and enough sunshine to keep things bright and cheery, Chill Em Allnever ceases to let the chilled out vibes explode out the record. This is such an upbeat album that it's the aural equivalent of an anti-depressant. By about the third song in, you'll either be packing for a holiday, sprawled out on your couch with a martini, or raving in your socks; this is just such a positive and vibrant record that it seems almost impossible not to be doing something...cool. Call it coffee-table house it's ok to like, Chill Em All is an album that's as lively as it is lush and as chilled as it is luxurious.
Chill Em All is a record of parallel existence in the sense that Champion have come with a group of songs here that sound as good in a club as they do in your multi-million dollar condo on the beach at sunset (!!). With records like this a dime-a-dozen nowadays and yuppies gobbling them up by the ton for dinner parties, it's nice to know that Champion actually can write a good tune that's a diverse as it is dancey. That being said, I've thoroughly enjoyed Chill Em All as a dance record...in fact it's like hearing the best record Moby never recorded.
Beautiful, easy going, and extremely catchy Chill Em All is truly more than just another chill out album. Champion have come up with an airy auditory excursion that your mind will have an easy time getting lost in and your feet might just be two steps ahead of you. Good stuff, indeed.
