Extra Golden Thank You Very Quickly
With world music undergoing a sort of renaissance in indie rock circles right now, it's nice to know that there's still realworld music making headway out there. That's where Kenya's Extra Golden come in. Having recently circled the globe on a tour that saw them play everywhere from Chicago to Denmark, Extra Golden are converting unsuspecting listeners to their festive sounds and their latest album, Thank You Very Quickly should help them further their goals.
While many people might groan at the prospect of listening to Extra Golden play "world music," the fact is while they are from Kenya, they don't sound like anything like traditional Kenyan music. Extra Golden are essentially a jazz combo that just so happen to occasionally sing in a foreign language and are influenced by where they come from. So while it is officially world music, don't think of it that way. World music or not, Thank You Very Quickly very clearly illustrates that Extra Golden are an impressive group of musicians who are capable of playing just about anything and have a good time doing it.
Made up of six airy, carefree songs, Thank You Very Quicklyis gleaming with positivity and joy which is impressive when you consider the strife and instability Extra Golden have faced on a constant basis. This record is a powerful statement that takes on issues facing not only Kenyans but citizens of the world as a whole. It's a call action with tight grooves and music that's as organic as Kenyan grown coffee. Extra Golden are flexible musicians who are creative, intelligent and very, very good at what they do and while it's taken them a while to get to this point they're not content with resting on their laurels but insistent in continuing to travel around the world to bring their message of awareness via joyful songs.
Call it what you will but Thank You Very Quickly is an enjoyable record filled with jazz inflicted global grooves. Extra Golden have written a catchy album that crosses borders and genre's and proves that the love of music is something that everyone, no matter where or who they are can enjoy.
