Trentemoller Gets Stuck in Copenhagen

Trentemoller's Copenhagenis the first release in an ongoing series called Harbour Boat Trips. What a harbour boat trip has to do with DJing, music, or anything even related is beyond me, but here's Trentemoller dishing out the tunes hot and fresh and regardless of where you hear them they're still pretty worthy of checking out. It's a good thing I did because this isn't at all what I would have expected to hear in a harbour or from Trentemoller. Rather than just packing Copenhagen with banger after banger like most mix CD's, Trentemoller goes for the moody angle and very slowly over the course of this twenty song set builds up to something a that could be dance floor friendly but not before mixing in all kinds of things you would never expect to hear in a DJ set.

With artists as diverse as Emiliana Torrini, Gravenhurst, Beach House, Raveonettes, and a host of others Copenhagenis decidedly grey and grim, almost as if Trentemoller decided that this record was the right time and place to get in touch with his inner-goth. That being said, Copenhagen's eclectic and fascinating mix of thought provoking music that's mostly downtempo with the occasional series of repetitive beats is beguiling. When you throw in the fact that it's not until the half way point that this record truly gains any sort of pace the record becomes even more interesting to listen to.

Packed with chilled out folk, trippy noise, dark chill, and strange ambient sounds, Copenhagen is a strange but great mix by one of the best electronic artists currently making headway in the dance community. Copenhagenwill throw you for a loop because when you think of mix albums you generally don't think of things being so grey, slow paced, and as potentially depressing as this is. But that's exactly what Trentemoller has created here and it's the perfect soundtrack to all those overcast rainy days we'll undoubtedly have this summer. Here's to miserable weather, storms, and harbours with miserably good records to go along!
