Pete Fowler's Psychedelic Guide to Monsterism Island

Pete Fowler is more known for his strange, cartoonish artwork and graphic design skills then his ability to make music. In fact, I never knew he actually wrote music! I did know however, that for well over a decade he's worked with the Super Furry Animals helping them establish an identity that was and still is truly unique. What I didn't know whs that his foray into music, A Psychedelic Guide To Monsterism Islandis a complimentary piece to his animated series Monsterism Island and is truly a journey into another world. Music, TV, graphic design...the guy does everything.

Featuring members of Super Furry Animals, Jerry Dammers, Future Sound of London, Luke Vibert and strange entities like The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, A Psychedelic Guide To Monsterism Island is anything but normal. While that might be off putting to some it shouldn't be. You see, A Psychedelic Guide To Monsterism Island is a wondrously lush record filled with cartoon like joy and strangeness. It's a kooky record that plays out like an episode of the series and each of the songs seem to fit perfectly before and after each other in a dare I say it, almost episodic fashion.

A Psychedelic Guide To Monsterism Islandsuccessfully mixes elements of jazz, dance music, rock, pop, indie and just about everything else into a mesmerizing stew of bewildering tunes. It's weird, wacky, and really quite good. Throw in a loose plot line and the record truly has a mind of it's own. It's hard to really describe A Psychedelic Guide To Monsterism Islandas anything but a rather twisted soundtrack to Pete Fowlers most twisted imagery and bizarre dreams.

Pop music this is not, but Pete Fowler has created a world of curiousity that your mind and ears will enjoy getting lost in. Pete has shown himself to be a multi-talented artist with this record and while I've never seen Monsterism Island after listening to this record I can't help but be motivated to find it somewhere and watch the thing from start to finish!
