Deladap Come To American
Although originally released two years ago in Europe, Deladap's Sara la Kali has finally made it across the seas and wound up here in the States. Better late than never, this group of world musicians fuses the traditional with the modern and do so with such convincing flare that it's hard to believe it's taken this long for it land on our shores. Thankfully it was worth the wait as Sara la Kali is quite good.
Deladap take the gypsy sound of the Balkans mix in modern beats and dance the night away. The songs that make up Sara la Kaliare energetic traditional sounding tunes that are inspiring, intriguing, and sound absolutely gorgeous. In listening to Deladap play through each of the songs here, one can't help but think of them as journeys around the Balkans soaking in the rich culture and atmospherics that make the region legendary. Melodically mysterious and exuberantly lush, Sara la Kali is a record that's a seductive as it is stellar.
It's always nice when someone throws a curveball into things that are traditional and Deladap have done just that by modernizing the gypsy sound. They make music that may have been intriguing by itself, but is now highly entertaining because they play it and sell it with such zest. Whether it's the swinging rhythms and dance inducing, "Shukar Dijes," or nearly trance inducing, "Imar Aven," Sara la Kali never slows down. In fact, Sara la Kaliis like an all night party gypsy style and Deladap are playing with more energy than the sun. That's entertainment.
