The Future King of Scotland Reveals The Complicated Honest Truth

The Future King of Scotland isn't actually royalty. In fact, he's not even a big time, big money rock star and that's just the way he, and his followers like it. In all actuality, The Future King is a slacker from Fife, Scotland who has proclaimed himself a DIY superstar and writes the songs to match. His second album, The Complicated Honest Truthis a lo-fi treat of pop recorded on no-track but pieced together with more heart than most of the music industry combined.

According to the little hand crafted booklet that accompanies The Complicated Honest Truththe album is about a boy falling in love with a girl when said boy is already in love with another girl. While it has all the potential to be Jerry Spring Special, The Future King reigns it all in and strums his away across 21 songs without a single chair or tape recorder being broken...at least that we know of. The sad thing is, The Future King has written a story and a set of songs that most of us can probably relate to and that's half of what makes listening to this little lo-fi LP relatable and good.

Whether it's upbeat and jangly or slow and heartbroken, The Future King Of Scotland is up as much as he is down and it makes for some fine songs and songwriting. This might be lo-fi stuff, but it's as pure as the driven snow and after listening to The Complicated Honest Truth you kind of just want to give The Future King of Scotland a ring and buy him many, many beers. Records like The Complicated Honest Truth are a rare breed, it's a case of songs and honesty carrying the artist. The Complicated Honest Truthwas not auto-tuned or even tuned to be honest, but the sincerity and relatability of The Future King of Scotland is what makes it so good. Long live the King!
