Scott Ryan Is The Tree Man

Surrounded by two acoustic songs, Scott Ryan's five track EP, Tree Man hides it's treasures well. Hidden beneath his acoustic cover is an artist who is as unafraid to rock and roll as well as get in touch with his sensitive side even if it means hiding from those sides. To be honest, upon first listen I thought I was in trouble when I put on Tree Man, I thought, "Here we go...more acoustic noodling." But thankfully, after 5:06 of sedation, the jumpy power pop of "Color Me In," revived me and threw me for a loop and saved this record from review Armageddon.

Having listened to the dead center of Tree Man, it's easy to say when Scott Ryan is good, this guy is good. When given the chance he either write's stompy melodic rock and roll that's loaded with hooks or dramatic, lush and nearly easy listening tunes that are too good to ignore. This record is a surprising treat that rewarded my patience with three delectable tracks of pop. Now, if only he would re-arrange this record so that the acoustic bookends were staggered, this record would be just about perfect. Nice stuff Scott, I can't wait to hear an album.
